Rawai, Phuket

A local guide to Phuket's relaxed southern tip — beaches, the seafood market, island boats and where to stay.

Updated October 2026By Green Garden Villas
Short answer

Rawai is the relaxed southern tip of Phuket. It is known for its seafood market and long-tail boats to nearby islands, and it includes Nai Harn Beach, Ya Nui, the Windmill Viewpoint and Promthep Cape. Rawai Beach itself is for boats and seafood rather than swimming. It is a great base for travellers who want beaches, nature and local life without Patong's crowds.

About Rawai

Rawai covers the southernmost part of Phuket island — a mix of fishing village, green hills, quiet beaches and residential lanes. It is home to a long-established community of Thai families, international residents and the Chao Leh (sea people), and it has a slower, more local rhythm than the island's resort strips.

For visitors, Rawai offers a little of everything: one of Phuket's best swimming beaches at Nai Harn, two of its most famous viewpoints, fresh seafood by the pier, yoga and wellness studios, Muay Thai gyms and plenty of small cafes and restaurants.

Rawai seafood market

Near Rawai pier, rows of stalls sell the day's catch — prawns, crab, fish, squid and lobster. The routine is simple: pick your seafood, pay by weight, and carry it to one of the restaurants across the road, which will cook it your way for a small charge per kilo. It is one of the best-value seafood dinners in Phuket, especially at sunset.

Seafood in Rawai, sunset at Promthep, a swim in your own pool — all within 15 minutes of our villas.

Book with a licensed operator, check life jackets, and be flexible in the monsoon months when the sea can be rough.
