A free hilltop lookout over Nai Harn Bay and Ya Nui — how to get there, when to go and what to combine it with.
The Windmill Viewpoint is a free hilltop lookout between Nai Harn and Ya Nui beaches in southern Phuket, named after the wind turbine on the ridge. It has some of the best views on the island over Nai Harn Bay and the Andaman Sea. Go in the late afternoon for golden light, combine it with nearby Promthep Cape, and allow about 30–60 minutes.
High on the ridge that separates Nai Harn Beach from little Ya Nui Beach, the Windmill Viewpoint takes its name from the white wind turbine standing on the hill. From the grassy lookout you see the whole curve of Nai Harn Bay to the north, Ya Nui and the small island of Koh Man below, and open sea stretching west towards the horizon.
It is one of the most photographed spots in southern Phuket, yet it remains simple: no entrance gate, a few vendors in busy times, and plenty of space to sit on the grass. Many visitors walk a short way up the slope for an even wider view — wear shoes with grip, as the path can be loose and steep.
The viewpoint is on the coastal road running south from Nai Harn towards Promthep Cape. From Green Garden Villas in central Nai Harn it is a drive of about 5–10 minutes.
Late afternoon to sunset gives the most dramatic light, with the bay turning gold and the sun setting into the sea. Sunset in Phuket is usually between about 6:15 and 6:45 pm. Early morning is quiet, cool and often clearer for photos. In the dry season (November to April) skies are most reliable; in the monsoon months, clouds can make sunsets spectacular — or hide them completely.
Our villas are about 10 minutes from the Windmill Viewpoint — perfect for an easy sunset trip.

Late afternoon into sunset gives the warmest light over Nai Harn Bay. Early morning is the quietest time and good for clear photos before the haze builds.
It is a short drive of about 5 to 10 minutes from central Nai Harn. Take a taxi, a ride-hailing car or a scooter; the hill road is steep, so only ride if you are an experienced driver.
